Fernwhisper is a narrative word game. We collect only the minimum information needed to run the game, persist your progress, and improve the experience.
Information We Collect

Session identifier: An anonymous browser cookie (e.g.,
mv_anon) to recognize your device and keep your session. - Player state: Your in-game progress and preferences (traits, story progress, active game sessions, ELO). Stored in our database under an anonymized player key. If you log in during development, the key is derived from your email using a one-way hash.
How We Use Information
- Run core features (render chapters, track guesses, advance the story).
- Maintain continuity across visits and devices when logged in.
- Diagnose issues and ensure reliability and security.
What We Don’t Do
- No sale of personal data.
- No unnecessary personal identifiers beyond what’s described here.
Data Storage
Player state is stored in a managed database. Access is limited to project operators and is protected by access controls. Backups and logs may retain copies for a limited period for reliability and audit.
Retention
Anonymous sessions expire automatically after inactivity. User accounts created for development can be removed on request. Story and gameplay metadata are retained only as long as needed to run the game and maintain integrity.
Your Choices
- Play anonymously (cookie only) or log in.
- Request export or deletion of your stored player state.
- Clear your browser cookies to reset anonymous sessions.
We use third-party vendors, including Google, that use cookies to serve ads based on a user’s prior visits to our website or other websites.
